Council upgrades fleet with five new bin lorries

Five new bin lorries have been purchased by Redditch Borough Council to replace its existing trucks.

It comes after the authority allocated a budget of about £2.1m to what it describes as a "strategic replacement programme".

A council spokesperson said the older vehicles had reached the end of their service life and typically, they need replacing about every seven years to maintain service reliability.

Council leader Sharon Harvey said: "We're committed to ensuring people in Redditch get efficient, reliable, and resilient waste collection services."

She added: "Behind the familiar sight of our crews emptying bins is a vital system of planning and investment that ensures they have the right tools and vehicles to deliver a high-quality service."

Redditch has a nine-vehicle refuse collection fleet which empties more than two million bins a year.

The old trucks are to be sold, with the proceeds going back into the public purse to improve services, the council has said.
