The Grand Theatre's production of Sleeping Beauty was nominated in three categories for the awards

A pantomime has been nominated in three categories for national awards.

The Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre's production of Sleeping Beauty is up for the honours in the UK Pantomime Awards, held on 19 April.

The show has been nominated for Best Villain for Danny Beard, Best Script for Tam Ryan and Ian Adams - and Best Pantomime in the over-950 seats category.

Chief executive of the Grand, Karen Smallwood, said: "We are delighted with the nominations and remain committed to ensuring our pantomime honours tradition yet pushes the boundaries of top-quality, inclusive, family-friendly theatre."

Sleeping Beauty was produced entirely by Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and featured two Wolverhampton-born actors - Zak Douglas and Solomon Davy - in principal roles.

Twenty-four local children were also cast for the performances.

Beard said about his nomination: "People care on every level with this show and that's what I'm like when it comes to my work which is why I slot right in with this show and this theatre."

This coming year's pantomime at the theatre will be Treasure Island.
