Murder arrest after prisoner dies
Google MapsA murder investigation has been launched and a man arrested following the death of a prison inmate.
Detectives were called to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge on Tuesday after the death of a man from HMP Highpoint Prison in Stradishall, Suffolk.
The 28-year-old had reportedly been involved in an incident with another prisoner.
Suffolk Police said a man in his 20s had been arrested on suspicion of murder and had been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
The victim was first transported and treated at the hospital on 23 January before he returned to the prison.
He was then readmitted to hospital on Tuesday before he subsequently died.
The police said the incident was being treated as a murder investigation and officers were "working closely with HMP Highpoint to establish the full circumstances of the incident".
"The family of the deceased have been made aware and are being supported by specialist trained officers," a spokesperson added.
"A Home Office post-mortem is scheduled to take place today."
