Liverpool became a sea of green, gold and white as thousands of revellers marked St Patrick's Day and flocked to mark the 10th anniversary of the city's annual parade.

Crowds crammed the streets as marching bands made their way around a route which began at the Old Irish Centre on Mount Pleasant and incorporated both of the city's cathedrals.

The city - sometimes affectionately referred to as Ireland's second capital - saw the merriment begin in earnest at 15:00 GMT with no signs of slowing down as the early evening arrived.

Music, food, floats, and community groups all joined in the festivities.

Before 2015, parades were organised by various community groups, often on a smaller scale and usually held outside the city centre.

But ever since it was revived by the Liverpool St Patrick's Day Group, the occasion has transformed it into a major cultural celebration, with people from all over Merseyside and beyond bringing the city streets to a standstill.
