Michael Palin: A Python’s life on the road
The British star has pulled off a successful second act – in travel writing and TV. But how did he do it? Michael Palin describes his journey beyond Python.
A familiar and well-loved face of British comedy, Michael Palin co-wrote and starred in some of Monty Python’s most famous sketches. He continued to act after Python, appearing in Ripping Yarns on television and on screen in A Fish Called Wanda.
Since then, he has embarked on a successful career in travel broadcasting and writing, appearing in several BBC documentaries including Around the World in 80 Days and Pole to Pole. An avid note-taker, Palin wrote a book to accompany each series.
In a special event filmed in front of a live audience, BBC travel reporter Rajan Datar quizzes Palin about his 25-year career in travel journalism, asking him about his life on the road and what inspires him to write.
