'Promising start' for city's congestion charge
The congestion charge for motorists in Oxford has made a "promising start", the county council's transport chief has said.
Speaking on BBC Radio Oxford, Andrew Gant has been discussing the impact of the £5 daily charge for drivers in parts of the city centre, launched six weeks ago.
Drivers caught going through one of six charging points without a permit will now receive a fine, instead of a reminder letter, following the end of a grace period.
Although critics have said journeys were taking longer, Mr Gant said there were signs that more people were coming into the city centre.
