Six people have been taken to hospital after a three-car crash on the M1 near Lisburn on Thursday night.

The crash involved an initial two-car collision, before a third car crashed into the other cars.

The motorway was closed westbound between Sprucefield and Moira, but has since reopened.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of driving offences, with one released on bail and the other remaining in police custody at this time.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it had sent three emergency crews, a paramedic and a doctor to the scene.

Six patients were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. There is no detail as yet on the extent of their injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have dash cam footage of it to contact them on the non-emergency number.
