Carl Frampton: Cyclone Promotions take legal action
Press EyeBelfast boxer Carl Frampton is facing legal action from his former trainers and promoters Cyclone Promotions, according to his solicitors.
He left Cyclone Promotions, owned by the McGuigan family, in August.
A statement from his solicitors said legal proceedings had been taken against their client and he was "deeply disappointed" by the move.
Cyclone Promotions said its claim against him relates to a "breach" of a promotional contract.
Solicitors for the The Tiger's Bay fighter said: "He will not only defend this action rigorously but can confirm he will be counter claiming on a number of grounds.
"Mr Frampton is confident that this process will vindicate his position and reputation, and looks forward to engaging fully in this process to present all aspects of this claim before the court.
"Therefore it would be inappropriate to issue any further comment at this time."
'Contract dispute'
The 30-year-old has claimed world titles at two weights and won 24 of his 25 professional fights.
Cyclone Promotions said it has been attempting to mediate a settlement with Mr Frampton and his representatives "for some weeks".
In a statement, the company said that "was ended by Carl Frampton's solicitors when a settlement could not be reached".
"The company therefore lodged a claim at the High Court against Carl Frampton relating to his breach of the promotional contract entered into with Cyclone Promotions.
"Cyclone Promotions is merely seeking a fair and equitable resolution to this contract dispute with Carl Frampton," it added.
"The courts will now decide on the matter."
