Land in Bentley excavated in 'historic crime' inquiry

Police have begun excavating land in Doncaster in relation to "possible historic criminal activity".

South Yorkshire Police and private contractors have begun digging in an area of land near Stockbridge Lane, Bentley.

A spokeswoman said the "methodical and detailed search" was expected to take a number of days to complete.

The force has not provided any further information relating to the purpose of the work.
