Shropshire Council hopes to provide Raac update next week

The results of a county-wide building survey should be published next week, two months after crumbling concrete fears closed a town's civic centre.

Parts of Whitchurch Civic Centre was forced to shut in September due to roof beams with reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac).

The closure sparked a county wide survey. Shropshire Council said it was still looking at the results.

The council said it appreciated people's frustrations.

Robert Macey, cabinet member for culture and digital, said new sites to house Whitchurch's library were also being considered, with the authority keen to restore the service in the town as soon as possible.

But he insisted safety had to come first, adding: "The closure is beyond our control.

"This is a complex process and must take into account planning regulations, property services and accessibility among other matters."
