Telford fire: Crews set to tackle recycling plant blaze overnight
Sam BagnallFire crews are continuing to tackle a large blaze at a recycling plant and expect to remain on site for at least two days.
About 60 firefighters have been at Greenway Polymers on Rock Road, Telford, since about midday.
The fire service said some bales of plastic waste had caught fire, sending large plumes of smoke into the sky.
Firefighters said earlier the blaze had been brought under control, but crews will remain at the scene.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue ServiceThey worked to stop the fire from spreading to the nearby M54 motorway.
Dan Quinn, of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said people should continue to avoid the area.
"We will remain at the scene overnight with crews continuing to tackle the fire, we expect to be at the scene for another 48 hours as a minimum," he said.
Drivers were earlier urged to slow down to give firefighters room to work, while people living nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors shut.
The fire service said the large column of smoke could be spotted for miles around.
