Hull Fair: Boss sings praises of clean-up squad

When the stalls close, rides stop and fun-seekers go home a team of cleaners is making the Hull Fair site spick-and-span for visitors.

Sara Rose, Hull City Council's environmental manager, said a 20-strong squad descends on the site each day.

Cleaners typically remove about 68 tonnes of rubbish during the week of the event, she said.

Ms Rose told BBC Radio Humberside: "It's nice to see everything they have achieved."

She said Walton Street "with all the food stalls" was the team's usual starting point each morning.

"We then come onto the fairground and it's just general bits of litter," Ms Rose added.

Russ Jackson, a member of the team, said it takes "three to four hours" to get the site looking spotless again.

He added: "It's nice to see it's all clean for everybody."

Ms Rose said "the big clean-up", which is expected to take about nine hours to complete, takes place on Sunday.
