Hull FC legend Mick Crane, a member of the club's Hall of Fame, has died.

Forward Crane, who twice won the Challenge Cup, first with Leeds in 1978 and then with Hull in the replayed 1982 final, also won one Great Britain cap.

Hull FC called Crane, who scored 98 tries in 359 appearances, in two spells, "one of the greatest to pull on the black and white shirt".

He also played for Leeds and Hull KR in the late 70s before, rejoining Hull in 1981 for another seven seasons.

Crane, who played at loose forward when Leeds beat St Helens 14-12 to win the cup at Wembley in 1978, returned to Wembley with Hull in 1982.

He played in the second row in the 14-14 draw with Widnes , and was then on the bench when the Black and Whites won the replay 18-9 at Elland Road, Leeds.

Crane won his one Great Britain cap while at Hull in a 32-8 defeat by Australia at Headingley in November 1982, but was then part of Hull's 1983 Championship-winning side.

A statement on Hull FC's website said: "A legendary character amongst teammates and supporters, Crane will be greatly missed by all those who knew, loved, and supported him.

"The thoughts of everyone at Hull FC are with Mick's family and friends at this difficult time."

As tributes poured in for the much-loved player, Hull KR tweeted: "The Robins send their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former player and cross-city legend, Mick Crane following his passing last night.

"Rest in peace, Mick."

Hull FC fan Trevor Gibbons added: "Aww no not Mick Crane! A rugby league wayward genius and a delight to have watched for #HullFC.

"Part of my teenage years at the Boulevard gone. Condolences to his family. RIP."
