Sellafield GMB workers hold second walkout in pay dispute
Getty ImagesThousands of workers at the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant are on strike, in separate disputes over pay.
It is the second walk-out by 3,000 members of the GMB union in a protest over what they describe as an imposed, below inflation pay rise of 1.5%.
They are joined by 300 catering and security staff employed by contractor Mitie, who have been offered 2%.
Sellafield Limited said the safety and security of the site are its priorities during any strike action.
The action lasts for 24 hours, and will be followed by a 12-hour walkout by firefighters at Sellafield - their third in a dispute over pay and job roles.
Chris Jukes, from GMB, said: "All our members want is a pay offer which at least keeps up with inflation so they can afford to put food on their families' tables as inflation and the cost of living goes up and up.
A Sellafield spokesman said: "The safety and security of the Sellafield site are our priorities during any industrial action.
"As always, we will work with other agencies to try to minimise disruption for the public."
