A 19-year-old man has appeared in court charged with terrorism offences.

Nuh Raheel was arrested in his hometown of Wednesbury, Sandwell, West Midlands, on Tuesday and was remanded in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

He is charged with seven counts of possession of articles for terrorist purposes.

The court heard Mr Raheel had been found with instructions on "hostage taking, vehicle attacks, arson and knife attacks".

It is also alleged that he was in possession of a magazine "produced by Islamic State".

Mr Raheel, of Knowles Street, will next appear at the Central Criminal Court on 6 November.

He was detained in a joint operation between the West Midlands and Metropolitan police forces into alleged Islamist extremism last week.

At the time of the arrest police said there was "not believed to be any imminent threat to the public".
