Girl, 6, hit by car and killed in Smethwick

A six-year-old girl who was run over and killed was crossing the road with her father when she was struck, police believe.

She was hit on Oldbury Road in Smethwick in the West Midlands at about 22:50 GMT on Saturday.

A 27-year-old man and 26-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police appealed for anyone who saw the collision or who may have CCTV that can help with inquiries to get in touch.

Det Con Damian Gibson, from the collision investigation unit, said: "There may be motorists who've captured the incident on dashcams and if so I'd ask them to also get in touch as they could have important information.

"The family are receiving support from family liaison officers, and our thoughts are them at this very sad time."
