The Guernsey Institute has launched the course in beginner's French for professionals

A six-week beginner French course has been offered for tourism professionals in Guernsey.

The Guernsey Institute, working with the Committee for Economic Development, has launched the course in beginner's French for professionals in roles which involve working with French-speaking visitors to the island.

A six-week course will run twice, with the first beginning on 3 February and the second beginning on 7 April, said the institute.

The aim is to help those working with French tourists improve their language skills and quality of customer service.

Lessons will be held every week on Tuesdays from 09:00 GMT to 11:00 at the Guernsey Institute's Coutanchez Campus.

Lucy Mallett, head of ACL Languages at The Guernsey Institute, said: "Following the popularity of previous taster sessions and with the increase in French visitors over the past year, it's clear there is a real appetite for islanders - especially those who work in the tourism sector - to improve their French speaking skills.

"We hope this course will equip those who enrol with the language skills required to engage meaningfully with tourists and help provide them with a positive experience of our island."

The cost of the course is £135. To enrol email [email protected].
