More crews to tackle pothole problems
PA MediaMore highways officers have been introduced to help tackle potholes and road improvements across a county.
Cambridgeshire County Council said it would be more than tripling the number of resources from eight to 30 crews.
The authority said about 1,000 potholes had been repaired in the last week but 5,400 potholes required work.
The authority said it had seen more road defects and potholes due to wet and freezing weather which has caused the roads and pavement surfaces to break up.
The authority has two dragon patchers, a specialist machine that emits flames to help the repair material to bond to the existing road surface.
The council said it had allocated more than £73m for highways maintenance in 2025/26.
The authority's Highways and Transport Committee has supported budget proposals that could see an additional £20m of investment into road maintenance in 2026/27.
Alex Beckett, the chair of the committee, said: "Driving, cycling or walking around the county there's no getting away from the fact it's pothole season and battling them is our top priority."
Beckett said the council has "surged" crews to fix roads around the clock and thanked people for their patience.
