A man has been taken to hospital with "life-altering" injuries after being hit by a van which then left the scene, police said.

The 58-year-old man was in Treeton Lane, in Aughton, near Rotherham, when he was struck by a green Iveco Daily at about 11:15 GMT on Monday.

South Yorkshire Police said the vehicle did not immediately stop at the scene, though the driver later returned and is helping officers with their inquiries.

Any witnesses to the collision, in particular anyone who may have dashcam footage of what happened, is asked to contact police.

Treeton Lane has been at the centre of recent discussions about road safety, after seven non-fatal accidents happened at its junction with Pleasley Road between 2019 and 2025.

MP for Rother Valley Jake Richards has called for urgent safety improvements to be made but Rotherham Council said there were no plans to make changes due to "limited funding and resources".
