People in Yeovil will soon be able to watch major sporting events on a big screen in the town centre.

A 16ft (5m) wide LED screen is going to be permanently installed in a new amphitheatre currently being constructed in the Triangle area.

Somerset Council said it would show national events like big sporting moments and royal occasions, as well as adverts.

It’s all part of the council's Yeovil Refresh regeneration programme.

Somerset Councillors unanimously approved the planning application with the screen due to be installed in spring 2024.

The plans said adverts would be on a loop without sound, with images changing no more than once every 10 seconds.

The screen will be allowed to be used between 07:00 to 22:00 seven days a week.

The council said it would also advertise local events and community information.
