Manslaughter charge after assault victim's death
GoogleA 24-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a man in Eastbourne last year.
Cameron Grocutt was initially arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm following a reported assault which took place in Canute Close on 26 October.
The 66-year-old victim later died in hospital on 12 November, resulting in the further charge now being brought.
Grocutt, of no fixed address, remains in custody and will next appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on 18 February.
Sussex Police's Det Supt Jayantha Mendis-Gunasekera said: "Officers have been investigating the circumstances of an assault on 26 October, and whether this was a contributing factor in the death of the victim.
"We are taking the case extremely seriously and are determined to find answers for his family.
"This was believed to have been an isolated incident that did not pose a wider threat to the community."
He added that no one else is sought in relation to the assault and asked anybody who might have information about what happened to get in touch.
