St Helens CouncilEvents have been held across the north-west of England to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Crowds of people paused and fell silent at 11:00 GMT in city centres and town squares across the region.
Members of the armed forces were joined by veterans at parades, while thousands of football fans paused to remember those who had made the ultimate sacrifice in war.
Further events and a two-minute silence will be held on Tuesday for Armistice Day, which marks the end of World War One in 1918.
