A 19-year-old has pleaded guilty to murdering his stepfather after he was found dead alongside a dog with multiple stab wounds.

Armed officers attended a house in Valley Road, Shirebrook, on 22 October after reports of a stabbing.

Christopher Owen, 57, was found with a number of stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, alongside a Jack Russell that had also been stabbed, Derbyshire Police said.

Logan Procter, of Valley Road in Shirebrook, pleaded guilty to murder at Derby Crown Court on Friday. He is due to be sentenced on 16 March.

Procter was also charged in October with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal in relation to the death of the dog.

However, this charge was not proceeded with.
