A care home hosted a dog show to mark International Dog Day and spread some cheer among its residents.

Cherry Blossom Care Home in Peterborough said about 20 dogs – including staff and residents' pets, and a few from the local community – took part in the event over the bank holiday weekend.

The competition had 10 categories, including Best Trick, Waggiest Tail, Prettiest Pooch and Best Rescue Story.

The care home's Natalie Crampton said the residents "loved and enjoyed" the event.

"The event was great and we even raised £100 for animal charity Woodgreen," Ms Crampton said.

"We are a care home that accepts dogs and pets who meet the criteria, and we like to get the community involved in various activities and events, such as the upcoming dementia talk.

"It was really sweet and everyone really enjoyed the event. It was the first dog show we hosted."
