Community groups in Corby can apply for the cash

A council has launched a £5,000 post-Christmas support fund to help its residents "during the challenging winter months".

Corby Town Council said community organisations and volunteer groups could apply for grants of up to £250 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications open on Monday, 5 January and the council said it hoped the fund would benefit "every corner of the town".

Leader Simon Rielly said: "We want this scheme to provide timely support when residents need it most."

"By launching after Christmas, we are targeting a period where mental wellbeing pressures often increase," he continued.

"This fund will enable local groups to step in with meaningful support and create stronger, more connected communities across Corby."

The council said that as long as applicants were from groups known in the community, they could access the funds without needing "formal legal status for a constitution".

It said this approach made the scheme "one of the most accessible grants" it had ever offered.

It is expected the grants will fund a variety of local projects including warm space, youth projects and well-being and mental health groups.
