A blue plaque to honour the life of a gay artist and poet is set to be unveiled later in Guernsey.

David Robilliard, born in the island in 1952, had his artwork displayed in both national and international gallery collections including the Tate Modern.

The artist moved to London in 1975 to pursue a career in poetry and had his first poetry book and exhibition in 1984, which the States' Culture and Heritage department said "subsequently saw David's career thrive".

His plaque is due to unveiled at the bottom of Clifton Steps, Market Square, at 15:30 GMT.

"David is so iconic, a monumental part of our culture, our community history," said Ellie Jones, chief executive officer of Liberate, LGBTQ+ charity that nominated Robilliard for the plaque scheme.

"His work is way ahead of his time, relatable even decades on, so witty and full of personality," Ms Jones said.
