Convicted killer now given life sentence for rape
Bedfordshire PoliceA convicted killer who raped and assaulted a woman after his release has now been jailed for life with a minimum term of eight years.
In October, Jamal Jeng, 28, was convicted at Luton Crown Court of rape, strangulation and three counts of assault in relation to attacks that took place while he lived in Bedford. He had previously been jailed in 2019 for 12 years for a drug-related killing.
The woman's victim impact statement said: "It has changed me beyond recognition. I will never go back to the person I was."
Det Con Stefania Digirolamo, from Bedfordshire Police, commended the woman for her bravery and described the case as a "shocking series of attacks culminating in a brutal rape".
Police said Jeng attacked the victim on a number of occasions before raping her.
Digirolamo continued: "Her evidence was vital in supporting the investigation which ultimately resulted in a significant jail sentence for this violent and abusive man.
"We take a zero-tolerance approach to anyone committing violence against women and girls in our county and we will continue to relentlessly pursue anyone who seeks to commit such offences and bring them to justice."
During sentencing last week, Jeng was told he must serve a minimum of eight years before he could be considered for parole.
