Man in court charged with 2019 shooting murder

A 40-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of another man who was shot in the head at point-blank range.

Hemawand Ali Hussain was found dead in a derelict house on Charterhouse Street, in Hartlepool, on 14 September 2019.

Sajmir Dodoveci was extradited to the UK and charged with murder after being detained at a train station in Brussels on 23 December 2025.

Dodoveci, of no fixed abode, appeared at Teesside Crown Court via video link from Holme House Prison earlier, where he remains in custody until his plea hearing on 26 January.

A trial is expected to start on 22 June and last up to 10 days.

Four men have already been jailed over Hussain's death.
