Police are investigating after four cars were destroyed in a fire at a car dealership in Leicester, which is being treated as arson.

Officers were called to Aylestone Road at 23:45 GMT on Sunday by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesman for CG Motorland said the business had suffered a "devastating loss" and each car destroyed could have sold for about £20,000 each.

Leicestershire Police is also investigating whether it is linked to a previous fire at a neighbouring business, and added no arrests had been made yet.

The company said it would be left badly out of pocket as insurance firms would only pay for the trade value of the lost vehicles, not their final sale value.

There was also extensive damage to the site, with barriers, tarmac, fascia boards, and signage partially melted, the spokesman added.

The company has released CCTV footage of the time the fire broke out and urged people to help police with any information

"Your heart goes into each car.

"We want to thank [the emergency services] very much, I really appreciate it, the police and fire department were down there so fast," the spokesman added.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the force.
