Former university site up for sale by council
West Northamptonshire CouncilA brownfield site formerly occupied by the University of Northampton is being sold for regeneration.
The 9.18-acre (3.7 hectares) Avenue Campus site, on St George's Avenue in Northampton, is owned by West Northamptonshire Council.
It said the land had already undergone significant preparation work, including the demolition of former university buildings and of key infrastructure, part-funded by the Brownfield Land Release Fund - and planning permission was in place for residential development.
The sale would take place through an "open and competitive process following strong early interest from national housebuilders", it added.
The former Bassett-Lowke halls of residence at the site are being sold separately.
Charlie Hastie, the Reform UK cabinet member for housing at the council, said: "The Avenue Campus site remains a key regeneration opportunity for Northampton, and this next stage represents an important step towards bringing forward new homes and long-term benefits for our area.
"By taking a clear and competitive approach to marketing the site, we are creating the right conditions for high-quality residential development that reflects both the site's heritage and its future potential."
The marketing and bidding process is expected to last about 10 weeks.
