One platform at Barons Court will be closed for most of this year

Part of a grade-II listed London Underground station will close this year due to "extensive repairs" to its roof, Transport for London (TfL) has said.

Barons Court, which serves the District and Piccadilly lines, will close one platform at a time: eastbound between 19 January and early June and westbound from mid-July until the end of the year.

Built in 1904, several key structures at the west London station are thought to be near the end of their lifespan. TfL has apologised for any disruption.

Director of asset performance delivery, Richard Jones, said: "This is the safest and quickest way to remove and replace the platform roof, which includes around 800 panes of glass."

He added: "We have been carrying out essential restoration and maintenance work at the station since February 2025.

"During this time, it became clear that the station requires more extensive repairs, which can only be safely undertaken by temporarily closing each platform one at a time."

District line passengers are advised to use West Kensington while TfL recommends changing at Earl's Court or Hammersmith for Piccadilly services.

Both platforms are expected to be open during the Queen's Club tennis tournament, which starts on 6 June, although services at the station will be affected by a planned track closure on 13 -14 June.
