Woman and pet dog die after being hit by car on A8

A woman and her pet dog have both died after being hit by a car on the A8 in Port Glasgow.

Amy Gray, 42, and her dog Reggie were struck by a Land Rover Sport as they crossed the eastbound carriageway of Greenock Road at about 07.00.

Emergency services attended but both died at the scene, while the driver of the Land Rover was not injured.

Sgt Patrick McWilliams appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision, or has dashcam footage, to contact the police with details.

He added: "We have specialist officers with Mrs Gray's family at this extremely difficult time."

The A8 on Greenock Road has since reopened following the collision.
