Police said offenders forced entry into the building by smashing windows and doors

A Labour Party regional head office has had its windows and doors smashed and walls graffitied with "free Gaza".

Northumbria Police said it was called to reports of vandalism at Newcastle's Labour Central offices in Trafalgar Street, just outside the city centre, at about 04:30 GMT on Tuesday.

Videos and images show windows and doors smashed, walls scrawled with "free Gaza" and "free the hunger strikers", and brickwork covered in red paint.

A Labour Party spokesperson said: "Anyone committing acts of violence, intimidation or criminal damage must face the full force of the law."

The building is home to the Northern Regional Office of the Labour Party.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "It was reported that offenders had forced entry to the building by smashing windows and then sprayed graffiti on exterior walls before leaving the area."

Police say inquiries are ongoing and urged anyone with any information to get in touch with the force.
