Second man convicted of teenage dad's murder
South Yorkshire PoliceA man has been convicted of murder over his involvement in the fatal shooting of a young father killed in a case of mistaken identity.
Ethan Hallows, 25, was in a convoy of vehicles when another member of the group shot Kevin Pokuta, 19, in the head as he sat in his car on Page Hall Road, Sheffield, in December 2023.
South Yorkshire Police said gunman Jake Brown had "mistakenly identified" Mr Pokuta as having been involved in an earlier incident.
On Friday, following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Hallows, of Oxford Street, Sheffield, was found guilty of murder, conspiracy to rob, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
Family handoutPolice said Hallows had fled the UK after the shooting, with the help of his girlfriend Paris Askew.
Hallows was arrested when he flew back to England in May.
Following the same trial, Askew, 23, of Griffiths Road, Sheffield, was found guilty of assisting an offender.
Both Hallows and Askew are due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on 23 January.
South Yorkshire PoliceLast year, 23-year-old Jake Brown was jailed for 36 years after being found guilty of murdering Slovakian-born Mr Pokuta, who had two children.
Meanwhile, three other men and a teenage boy were convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery.
