Jersey Water said reservoirs were about 94% full in January

Reservoirs in Jersey are in a "much better position" due to recent wet weather, the island's water company has said.

Jersey Water said this month reservoirs were about 94% full and the rainfall was welcome after a year of "particularly dry" weather in 2025.

The head of resilience and emergency planning Mark Bowden said the island still required a "wetter than average winter" to avoid challenges in the summer months.

It comes after the water company previously urged islanders to conserve water due to a dry spell in August and stream levels dropped.

Bowden said: "We always aim to have reservoirs completely full from February to April, so that we have enough water going into the summer months when the Island's water usage typically increase."

Jersey Water operates six main reservoirs, which together can store about 2.7bn litres of untreated water.

"We would once again like to thank Islanders for their concerted efforts to save water when we have asked for their help," added Bowden.

"Their action meant that we didn't need to introduce restrictions.

"Our hope is that Islanders make water saving part of their routine all year round so we always protect this precious resource for Jersey."
