Oldfield Road in Westbury will be shut until 19 December

A road has been closed to allow for "essential" major gas improvements.

Part of Oldfield Road in Westbury, Wiltshire is now closed until 19 December to allow for upgrades to pipes in Penwood Close.

Wales & West Utilities' Simon Lee, who is overseeing the work, said: "We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future."

The improvement project will be carried out in two phases, with similar work planned for March 2026.

Wales & West Utilities say the location is "not ideal" but is "essential" for gas improvement work

Wales & West Utilities said it had worked closely with Wiltshire Council ahead of the closure of Oldfield Road.

Mr Lee added: "While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community.

"Whether it's heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

"This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future."

Access to Oldfield Road will be maintained for local residents while the work is carried out.
