An 81-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car on Friday, Humberside Police has said.

The incident, involving a grey Land Rover Freelander, took place on Norwood, Beverley, in East Yorkshire, near the junction with Mill Lane at about 07:40 GMT.

The woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but died on Saturday evening.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while over the specified drug limit and causing serious injury by careless driving. He has since been released from custody pending further investigation, the force added.

Police said the woman's family was being supported by specially trained officers and appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time of the collision, to get in touch.
