A prisoner serving a sentence for attempted murder has absconded from a jail in Cheshire.

Kieran Cameron was reported missing from HMP Thorn Cross, a Category D open prison in Warrington, at 20:20 GMT on Tuesday, police said.

The 43-year-old is currently serving a 23-year-prison sentence for an attempted killing in Dorset in 2016.

Cameron is described by police as white, about 5ft 6in (1.7m), of medium build, with heavily receding hair and a ginger and grey beard.

The force warned the public not to approach the inmate - who is known to have links to Manchester, Liverpool and Dorset - and to call 999.

Det Ch Insp Nick Henderson said: "We are appealing for the help of the public to trace Kieran Cameron, who is unlawfully at large after leaving HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington.

"If you see him, do not approach him, call 999 immediately."
