A village wedding venue in Staffordshire has closed with immediate effect after 35 years in business.

Slater's Country Inn and Hotel in Baldwin's Gate posted a notice outside its premises announcing "with great sadness" it had ceased trading on Sunday.

"After 35 years in business, the directors and staff extend their heartfelt thanks to all their customers for their friendship, loyalty and support," it added.

The BBC has been unable to contact the owners of the venue for further comment.

The notice went on to say: "It has been a privilege to serve you and we are deeply grateful for the relationships built over so many years."
