A man has been charged over the discovery of human remains in a flat in Merseyside.

Police said George Gordon, of Gerards Court, St Helens, has been charged with preventing lawful and decent burial of a body and obstructing a coroner in the execution of their duty.

The 65-year-old was arrested at the scene after police discovered the remains, which have not been formally identified, on Thursday.

Gordon will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court later.

A 58-year-old man, also from St Helens, remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of assisting an offender.
