Woman attacked in cemetery as she visited grave
GoogleA woman suffered slash wounds when she was attacked while visiting a relative's grave in a cemetery, police have said.
The woman and her friend were at St Helens Crematorium on 8 January, said Merseyside Police, when a white Audi A4 arrived and a group of women got out of the car and attacked one of them.
The victim and her friend managed to drive away but were pursued by the Audi.
About 10 minutes later, police received reports the Audi had been in collision with a van on St Helens Linkway. Somebody is then said to have leapt out of the van and began to smash the Audi's rear window.
Merseyside Police said two women had been arrested in connection with assault after the incident in the cemetery.
An 18-year-old woman from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 attempted wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon and common assault.
A 44-year-old woman, also from St Helens, was detained on suspicion of Section 18 attempted wounding with intent.
Both have been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.
