A main road has been closed after a lorry carrying a forklift truck got stuck under a railway bridge.

Photos shared online show the vehicle stuck under Honeybourne Railway Bridge, on the A4019 in Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire Police said a road closure is in place near Tewkesbury Road and the High Street.

People have been advised to avoid the area while the situation is dealt with.

In a short statement a spokesperson for Gloucestershire Police said they were called to the scene just before 10:00 GMT.

"PCSOs remain at the scene and highways colleagues will be attending in due course," they said.

"Members of the public are asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes if travelling nearby."

The county council, which manages the highways, has been approached for comment.
