TV clips shown in police drink-driving campaign
Northamptonshire PoliceA police force has used footage from a long-running Channel 5 documentary series to provide a "stark reminder" as part of its drink and drug-driving campaign.
Northamptonshire Police said it had partnered with Raw Cut Television, which produces Police Interceptors, to create a short film demonstrating the consequences of driving under the influence.
The TV show has been embedded within the county's force for its past two series, which shows officers responding to incidents on the county's roads.
Det Ch Insp Shelley Nichols said: "We hope this video serves as a reminder that no matter how much you try to convince yourself; there's absolutely no excuse for this type of irresponsible behaviour."
The two-minute video details the force's 2024 drink and drug-driving campaign, which saw 94 motorists charged.
Det Ch Insp Nichols added: "Our priority is to keep our communities and roads safer all year round.
"No one wants to get that terrible knock on the door to tell them someone they love is not coming home. The message in this video is simple - make the right choice and never drink or drug drive."
Northamptonshire Police said that drink and drug-driving is one of the main contributors in collisions and is one of the so-called "fatal five driving offences", alongside careless driving, not wearing a seat belt, excessive speed, and using a mobile phone whilst behind the wheel.
The force said that between January and November this year officers had arrested a total of 709 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and a further 260 road users had been detained after testing positive for drugs.
