Man sentenced for part in £81k cannabis plot
BBCA man who agreed to allow his address to be used to import £81,000 of cannabis to the Isle of Man through the post has been sentenced.
Liam Waldrum, 29, had been offered £560 of the drug by an acquaintance in exchange for allowing the package to be sent to his home in Union Mills.
Douglas Courthouse heard a brown parcel addressed to Waldrum was intercepted at the Isle of Man Post Office on the evening of 8 May 2025 after been identified as suspicious by a police dog.
Handing him a 22 month sentence, suspended for two years, Deemster Graeme Cook said: "On this occasion I am going to give you the benefit."
The court heard that a subsequent search of Waldrum's address by police found a small quantity of cannabis in his bedside table, and his mobile phone and weighing scales were seized.
After being arrested he answered no comment during interview, but later pleaded guilty to importing cannabis.
The court heard Waldrum accepted the parcel was intended to be delivered to his address and he was going to keep one ounce of the delivery as payment, but said he did not order the drugs himself.
His defence advocate argued that the 29-year-old, who works as a supermarket lorry driver, had not know how much cannabis was being delivered to his address.
