Four arrested after man injured in hit and run
BBCFour men have been arrested after a man was hit by a van and suffered "life‑threatening injuries", Humberside Police said.
Officers were called to East Common Lane in Scunthorpe at about 18:10 GMT on Monday after reports a 50-year-old man was involved in a hit and run incident.
A van was later stopped by police on Rochdale Road where two men fled the vehicle and were arrested following a short chase.
Two other men found in the back of the van were also arrested.
Humberside Police said the four suspects aged 33, 35, 45, and 53 remained in custody and a scene guard is in place on East Common Lane.
The force added it was making a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct after the 35-year-old was injured while he was being detained.
Det Insp Charmian Bakersmith said the incident would be "concerning" for the local community but officers had "already made extensive enquiries".
She added: "Whilst our investigation is very much in its early stages, our initial lines of enquiry lead us to believe this involves individuals known to each other."
Bakersmith appealed for information and any video footage of the incident.
