Boy accused of dangerous driving after police chase
Warwickshire PoliceA 14-year-old boy has been charged with eight offences, after a spate of burglaries, resulting in a police pursuit on a major road in Warwickshire.
The teenager was arrested after a reportedly stolen vehicle was stopped as it attempted to go southbound on the northbound carriageway of the A46, "into oncoming members of the public," police said.
A black Ford Focus had been reported as stolen overnight on New Year's Eve from the Leamington Spa area, with a shop and three homes then targeted, said Warwickshire Police.
The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, has been released on police bail and set to appear in court on Thursday 8 January.
Police said they began to receive reports of burglaries in the Leamington Spa and Warwick areas starting at about 05:00 GMT on New Year's Day.
The first came from a shop, the force said, with the next three linked to homes and the vehicle.
Armed officers and dog units worked with patrol officers and CCTV operators to track it.
After it was discovered on the A46 it was "forcefully stopped", and a male occupant arrested.
A 14-year-old from Warwick has been charged with:
- Three burglaries of dwellings
- One burglary of a non-dwelling
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Dangerous driving
- Driving without insurance
- Driving while disqualified
