Similar plain clothes patrols have been carried out on buses elsewhere in Cornwall

Plain clothes police officers are to be stationed on buses in the new year to help tackle anti-social behaviour.

Patrols will be carried out in south east Cornwall, with officers on the lookout for passengers who make others uncomfortable with repeat or unwanted attention, or who are acting drunk and disorderly.

Similar operations have been carried out in Saltash, Looe, and Torpoint. Devon and Cornwall Police said previous patrols had been "very positive" but that it was aware "predatory or concerning behaviour" does happen on some buses.

"That's why we'll continue to carry out plain clothes operations like this in 2026, at different times and on different routes," said Insp Ned Bowie.

He added: "Plain clothes operations are another tactic that our officers use to pursue perpetrators, deter offending and ultimately create safer spaces for everyone.

"We continue to work closely with our partners, including bus companies, to gather intelligence and take action against those causing harm."
