Exhibition marks American artist's visits to county
Birmingham Museums TrustThe works of one of the "most celebrated portrait painters of his time" have gone on display at a museum.
John Singer Sargent: An American in Worcestershire, opens at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum on Saturday and runs until the 14 June.
The exhibition celebrates the artist's visits to the region and includes works not seen before in the city, Museums Worcestershire said.
Sargent, who died in 1925, became most renowned as a portraitist, with a "remarkable ability to capture the individual likeness and character of his sitters," a spokesperson added.
The new exhibition, which has been funded by Arts Council England, reflected the importance "of the Broadway colony of artists on Worcestershire's artistic heritage," they added.
The gallery and museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00 GMT and 10:00 to 15:00 GMT on Sunday, with tickets available to be booked online.
Deborah Fox, Museums Worcestershire senior curator added: "We are very excited to celebrate John Singer Sargent and his links to our beautiful county, as well as showcasing great works from Worcester's own collection."
