Emergency services were called in the early hours

Five people were taken to hospital after a fire at a home on New Year's Day, according to police.

Emergency services were called to the property in Abbingdon Walk, Worthing, at about 04:20 GMT.

According to West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, firefighters rescued a woman in her 50s and provided first aid before paramedics took over her care.

Sussex Police said: "Five occupants of the house sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment."

The incident is "not being treated as suspicious at this time"

The force said it was investigating the cause of the blaze with the fire service but the incident was "not being treated as suspicious at this time".

Six fire engines were sent to the blaze.
