Arrest after pedestrian seriously injured in crash

A man has been arrested after a pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Hill Street and Kilwardby Street just after 21:30 BST on Monday, following a report of a collision between a car and a man in his 70s.

Leicestershire Police said the pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital, where he remains with serious injuries.

The force added a 33-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remained in custody.

Police said when officers arrived at the scene, the driver of the car had left.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage that could help the investigation to come forward.
